Summary: End users often provide high level requirements that describes the solution that they are looking for, and in that process, assuming Business Analysts understands the underlying assumption. Hence, the term “Requirements Gathering” has evolved into “Requirements Elicitation”, implying that there is more than what the end users say they need. Without the appropriate domain knowledge, it is hard for Analysts to find out the implied requirement. Also, once the solution is presented, users often go “ah-ha! I need this other feature too!”. There is also a class of requirements that is “unexpected” where even end users themselves did not foresee they need. In this talk, Michael will share with you insights into these requirements and ways to discover them.
About Speaker: Tan Yong Heng Michael is a Senior Lecturer from Nanyang Business School -Division of Information Technology & Operations Management. Prior to joining NTU, he was teaching in the Institute of Systems Science, National University of Singapore for more than 10 years. He taught courses related to Business Analysis, Business Process Management, Agile Software Development, Robotics Process Automation and User Experience Design.
